Football Officials Positions and Responsibilities

Every game needs some officials to manage it, same is the case in football. There are a number of people who work for maintaining the structure, arranging tours, holding events.

The most important role players in football officials are referees, umpires, linesmen, judges and a fourth official. We can categories them in different names by their responsibilities. Some of them are to check lines, keep an eye on field and other to control the game. As football is one of the most popular games in the world, each official has a great importance and notable position in FIFA.

 
Referees are the main administer who check the rules and regulations in the ground. Their duty is to penalize any player breaking the rule during the match.

 
They generally perform a few duties before the game starts. Inspect the field before the match start, goal post, all tools for the game, mark lines on the pitch and communicate with the assistants outside the pitch. They are introduced to the couch and manager of all teams. Mostly they are friendly with the players. Understanding the language and term used for the game is also a key point for any umpire & referee. They have a few colored cards, whistle, watches to calculate time and a head set for communication. All these equipment are used in required situations. They can stop match, call first aids and take decisions.

 
Umpire should be skilled, calm, confidence, have good knowledge and well in communication. FIFA uses rating and grades for the referees. The linesman notes the ball throw, kicks and corners. He uses flag to show any signal. He also points out fouls to the referee.

 
You may have seen a man showing electronic board form outside the field. Yes! That person is the fourth official.  He shows substitute players.
