Football Positions Explained for Dummies

In football there are two types of play in the ground. One is to attack your opponent and we can call them offensive in sports term. The team who is struggling to save the goals or preventing the scoring is playing in a defensive way. So, we can call them defenders. Now the defenders need some players to deal with the offender. To do this, some positions are given to the athletes with the specific places in the ground. All these positions are collectively considered dummies in football terminology. In American football and Australia dummies have same purpose.

 

  • Quarter back: Shortly known as QB. He is the super hero for a team. The main action is called by him. He can take the ball with him or call his companions to receive the ball. It is his choice to decide wisely.
  • Running back: His task is to run, catch, block and throw the pass to other. RB is also called tailbacks and halfbacks.
  • Fullback: FB is a full time runner. In a way player is doing same job of Running back but also occupying the quarterback position.
  • Wide receiver:Every team uses 2 – 4 wide receivers. There quickly catch the ball and pass it. Their actions are very fast to jump and grab the ball in air.
  • Left guard and right guard: They protect the player who is running with the ball.
  • Tight end: He can take passes and throw to other by blocking.
  • Offensive line: In this line there are five categories and five players are allotted the given positions.
  1. Left Tackle (LT)
  2. Left Guard (LG)
  • Center (C)
  1. Right Guard (RG)
  2. Right Tackle (RT)
  • Defensive line: There are two or four players working on this line. Their duty is to overpower offensive line of opponent team.

Some other important dummies are corner back, safety and kicker.
