CET stands for chronic traumatic encephalopathy. It is brain trauma caused by brain tissue decay. It starts building up a protein which causes damage to brain cells. The common symptoms are anxiety, depression, confusion, memory loss and dementia. In some cases mood and behavior change is also observed. Alzheimer’s disease appears form head trauma and later threatens one’s life. In NFL this is the major health issues.Players who were diagnosed with CTE symptoms formed a lawsuit against NFL in the past years.
Many researchers are working on this disease. Other people are of the opinion that Football is a dangerous game itself. They think “there is no exact remedy to prevent hits on heads. Even the helmets are not a safe guard. In few cases helmets hit the skull. The hardest guard hits hardly when struck with something.”
There are a few precautions which can save athletes form this trauma.
1- The first one is to avoid head injury.
2- Use helmets to protect head.
3- Do good practice to prevent unnecessary hits.
4- Use safe area for play without any holes and uneven surface.
5- Every athlete should follow game’s rules and regulations.
6- Players should not use body game. Any collusion can cause great loss.
For athletes, brain injuries by hitting and collusions are the serious issues. Football organizers should make some reforms and give proper guidance to the coaches. Allow athletes to wear equipment for their safety.
There are a number of NFL players who became victim of CTE.
